It just might be the most unique wedding venue in all of Southern Maryland.  Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf is not just about baseball and hot dogs.  It’s a first-class facility with upscale food in a setting not found anywhere else in this part of the state.

Receptions and rehearsal dinners can be held in the 150-seat Legends Club, a building located down the 3rd base side of the stadium.  Natural light fills the room all day long thanks to the floor to ceiling glass panels that look out over the lush green field of play.  The mood in the room is decidedly upscale with cloth linens, glassware, and flowers throughout.  The room features a bar (beer & wine only – no liquor) and room for a DJ or small band.

For more casual receptions, the 400-person Red Hot & Blue Picnic Pavilion is a great venue.  It sits atop the stadium’s old fashioned manually operated scoreboard.  It reminds baseball fans of the storied “Green Monster” at Boston’s Fenway Park.  The blue and white striped picnic tent sits atop an elevated wooden deck that provides a panoramic view of the field and the stadium’s main concourse.

The unique attributes of Regency Furniture Stadium as a wedding destination include a lot more than just the reception site, according to Kyle Knichel, Group Sales Manager for the Blue Crabs.  Knichel says, “If unique is what you want, how about getting married right at home plate.  Baseball plays such a big part of people’s lives.  The groom might have played Little League as a kid or the bride might be playing girl’s fast-pitch softball.  The underlying passion is a love for America’s national pastime.  It’s special to stand out on Southern Maryland’s Field of Dreams.  And we help brides and grooms cherish that special moment forever.”

The Blue Crabs play their home games from late April until mid-September so a wedding party can use a ballgame as its source of entertainment for the reception.  Knichel says, “Some guys don’t like to dance.  Some brides just aren’t comfortable tossing the garter and bouquet so why not let the game be the entertainment for the evening.  And to top it all off, if your reception is held on a night with fireworks, while other receptions will be closing out with some tired song you’ve heard a zillion times, your reception will close out with one heck of a bang…literally!”  Knichel adds that receptions at the stadium are a year-round business.   Receptions don’t have to be scheduled just when the team is in town.

Since opening in May of 2008, Regency Furniture Stadium has quickly become known for its family-friendly and kid-friendly atmosphere.  Blue Crabs officials wanted to make sure that kids also have a good time at wedding receptions.  Knichel says, “Receptions are all about families.  For a lot of families, it just wouldn’t be complete if the children were excluded.  Since we already have a giant play area complete with a moon bounce, sliding board, and rock climbing wall, the answer to this situation could not have been easier.  If the bride and groom want it, we’ll open up the entire play area, even the Crabby Cove Bumper Boat Pond. “  Knichel added, “I’ve been to a number of weddings myself as a guest.  At a traditional banquet hall, the kids run around on the dance floor.  At our place, the kids can play on the entire field.”

Beautiful settings might be part of a great reception but the food has to also be top notch.  Food at Regency Furniture Stadium for the ballgames and all other events is provided by Centerplate, a company that feeds countless numbers of meals at stadiums and arenas around the country.  General Manager Darren Hubbard says, “My staff can do just about anything when it comes to culinary cuisine.  Ballpark food may have a reputation based in nachos, popcorn, and hot dogs, but a wedding reception allows us to really show what we can do.  Top quality, fresh ingredients, great recipes, and the skill of our staff result in meals that match any of the area’s top restaurants. When planning a wedding, one of the areas that from time-to-time can get a little touchy is how to handle the bachelor party.  A trip to the Gentlemen’s Club might be right for some, but a drunken beer-fest similar to a college frat house may offend others.  Here again, Regency Furniture Stadium offers a solution.  The stadium has 25-person Party Suites complete with air conditioning, satellite TV, and their own private restroom.  This big night out with the guys can be a night at the ballgame complete with the groom-to-be tossing out the Ceremonial First Pitch.
